the knobs are way to close together, and no AT,Ĭompared to Korg's stuff (the microx - mini triton. what is not good: the keybed is terrible, virtually playable as a professional. the engine sounds decent, has some of that great liquid character that Novation synths have had since the supernova (I have a supernova II EXP, which I consider one of the finest VAs out there, along with John Bowen's Solaris and Korg's Radias.). The build quality on the Novation is pretty bottom of barrel, it competes with the Korg microkorgxl for the absolute most toy like. I'll confine this review to units with a similar form factor - Korg microx, Microkorg, Microkorg XL, Mopho keyed. I try and keep these small synths separate in my mind, because I can actually carry and use them live, but I do have an example of a good number of non-modular synths. I have a very large collection of synths (63- 61 key or greater keyboards and 100s of rack units.). both mono and polyphonic, VA and analog, old school and new school that I have ended up with in my quest for the perfect performance rig (that literally won't break my back - I'm 36 and can't lift more an 15 lbs,-and eventhat is a challenge.) I play a bit of everything, but mostly pop/dance/and new wave. I have a large collection of "short boards". It's 'ok' for $150, it's a nice controller with sound but SO cheaply built
